What I write about

I write about homes that people actually live in. Not the ones in catalogues with a single bowl on an empty counter, but the ones with a drawer that won’t close and a chair that has become a place where clothes go to wait.

Most home advice online has a budget problem and an assumption problem. It assumes you own the place, that you can knock through a wall, that a $400 storage system is a reasonable answer to a cluttered hallway. Very little of it is written for rented flats, shared rooms, or the kind of space where the only storage you’re getting is the storage you already have.

That gap is what LifestyleRoot is for. Everything I publish here has to pass a simple test: can someone do this on a weeknight, with what they already own, in the home they actually have?

How I work

I try things before I write about them. When a guide says a method takes three weeks of short sessions, that’s because it took three weeks of short sessions — not because three weeks sounded reasonable.

I also try to be honest about what doesn’t work. A lot of popular organizing advice is really just clutter relocation: buying containers to hold things you were never going to use. Where a method has a real limitation, I’d rather say so than sell it.

Corrections and questions

If something I’ve written is wrong, out of date, or didn’t work in your home, I’d like to know. Corrections go on the article itself, with a note about what changed. You can reach me through the contact page.

Background

I have been writing online for several years, publishing on home, lifestyle and everyday practical topics before starting LifestyleRoot.

The interest in home and living came from small spaces, plural. Several moves, several rented rooms, and a long stretch of figuring out what actually helps when you can’t renovate your way out of a problem.
